Start on Sat was committee boat. Rob issued a general recall after the first attempt due to several boat blatantly barging at the committee boat and failing to make any attempt to keep clear when hailed by close hauled boats. The right of way boats having to bear away down the line to prevent the bargers from being driven into the committee boat. Boats got away at the next attempt with a short beat to East hook followed by a spinnaker run via North Head to the finish at Yarmouth.
The evening saw 60 members gather on the lawn of the RSYC in glorious sunshine to enjoy a correctly spaced RV . The last boat home, Skycomish, was declared the winner on handicap. 20 member stayed on to take part in the Yacht Club’s Spicy Bingo Night.
The committee boat for the Sunday start was a power boat skippered by Mark Webley with the start line set 0.25 nm East of Yarmouth. The short beat to North Head in a fresh SW wind and ebb tide saw boats cross tacking to find the right position to be swepped past Hurst fort close enough to be able to make the buoy while holding the same close hauled course.
Dave Butters, sailing ‘Joy’ single handed, was the first boat to North Head and then lead the fleet home to the Poole finish line in fantastic sailing conditions.
17 boats and another great PYRA weekend.
